Course Descriptions

Science


Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grade courses include an integrated study of Life Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science. All three courses focus on making science a hands-on experience with labs and activities that engage students in practicing the steps of the scientific method. Several reading strategies are included to help students understand and organize information covered and to connect their science experience with other subjects, especially math, in improving their appreciation of the world around them.

English

Sixth Grade: Students will learn the Elements of Literature through reading novels, non-fiction, short stories, and poetry. Students will connect literature to World Geography studies. Literature circles will be used. Students will develop composition elements of style using standardized English, improving sentence structure, creating organized paragraphs and Narrative and Cause and Effect essays. Some research will be done.


Religion

Sixth Grade: This course begins with the creation story and follows the Old Testament in chronological order. Through prayer, scripture, discussion, and reflection, students learn about God’s love for his people, and his action in their lives throughout history by explore the forming, building, redefining, and fulfilling of the covenant God made with his people. Additional focus is given to studying the components of Church’s liturgical year.
